October 2: East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine Dr. James Peden, Associate Dean for Admissions, will speak to pre-med students about the medical school, application process, and what Brody SOM looks for in a competitive applicant. Q&A session will follow his talk. This talk will be very informative for all pre-meds, especially North Carolina residents. 5:00 pm COED 010
October 15: Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry Dr. Carolyn Booker, Dean of Student Affairs and Minority Affairs, will talk about VCU's dental school and ways to achieve success in the application process. An open Q&A session will follow her talk. Dr. Booker is a great source of information; all pre-dental students should plan to attend. 5:15 pm COED 010
October 24: Duke University School of Medicine Richard Wallace, Associate Director of Admissions, and a first-year medical student/graduate of UNC Charlotte will give a presentation to all interested pre-med students. Mr. Wallace will discuss the medical school and give insights into the admissions process; our alum will talk about starting medical school and how he negotiated being a successful pre-med at UNC Charlotte. 1:00 pm (location tba)
November 12: Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine Bea Jones, Admissions Coordinator, will speak about VCOM and the principles of osteopathic medicine. VCOM actively recruits residents of North Carolina to help fill the deficit of osteopathic physicians in the state. SPRING SEMESTER 2008 January 30: University of Alabama School of Optometry Schennia Thomas, Admissions Specialist, will be available to answer questions about UAB's optometry program, the application process, competitive credentials, etc. UAB is one of 4 NC "contract" schools (Optometry Scholarship Loan Program); students may qualify for state-assisted financial aid that greatly reduces the cost of optometry school. 5:00 pm CHHS 330
April 10: UNC School of Pharmacy Dr. Carla White-Harris, Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of the UNC/Elizabeth City State University PharmD Partnership Program, will speak to students about the PharmD program on both campuses, especially with regards to admissions requirements and career choices. 11:30 am Cato 353
April 10: Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine Dr. Stanley Flemming, Brigadier General, and President of Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, will speak on admissions, interviewing effectively, and other topics of interest to pre-meds. He will also speak aobut serving in the Army or Army Reserve as a physician, and Health Professions Scholarships available through the Army. 5:00 pm Woodward 140
April 11: Dr. Bala Ambati Currently listed as the "world's youngest physician" by the Guinness Book of World Records, Dr. Ambati is a distinguished researcher in the field of ophthalmology. Dr. Ambati graduated from NYU when he was 13, graduated from Mount Sinai School of Medicine when he was 17, and completed a residency in ophthalmology at Harvard at age 23. Currently, he is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at University of Utah. He will give a talk to pre-meds during a special luncheon event. 12 noon Woodward 154
April 22: Wake Forest Medical School Dr. Lew Nelson, Associate Dean for Admissions, will address pre-med students. In addition to discussing the medical school at Wake Forest, he will give advice on the application and admissions process. 5:00 pm CHHS 115
April 22: Mercer University College of Pharmacy Ms. Jordana Berry, Associate Director of Student Affairs and Admissions, will discuss the Mercer PharmD program. Other topics include PCAT preparation and application. 6:15 pm Woodward 354
April 23: UNC School of Dentistry Dr. Matt Morano, Director of Student Services at the dental school, will discuss dental school admissions with emphasis on characteristics of a competitive applicants for UNC's program. He will also talk about upcoming enrollment changes at the dental school. 11:00 am COED 065 |
